I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your Confidential despatch of the 29th of February, and to acquaint you that I have satisfied myself that the information received by the Chinese Customs and leading to the seisure of the opium on board the 3.3, "kishima Maru" omme from the same source as that which reached the Colonial Office.

accordingly 1 have caused the Crown Agents for the colonies to be instructed to pay the sum of £170 to Fr. P.H.King and to accept his receipt as sufficient.acknowledgeant.

2. It same possible that similar oness may arise in the future and after semi-official discussion it has been arranged that iftime permits, any informa- tion as to the mugling of opium into Hongkong or Shanghai which may reach this Office will be communicat- ad to Fr. King in order that he may deal with the matter. You will of course be informed by despatch in order that you may be in full soquaintance with the facts in the event of a claiɛ to a reward being made.
